Elderly Man Airlifted To Hospital From Hercules

HERCULES, CA — A 91-year-old pedestrian suffered a broken leg Monday morning when a vehicle struck him while he crossed a road near Hercules City Hall, according to police.

Around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to the vicinity of Syacamore Avenue and Civic Drive, where they found the man on the ground in the roadway with visible injuries to his head.

Investigators believe the victim was not in the crosswalk when he attempted to cross from the north curb of Sycamore, just west of Civic, to the south curb.

A 21-year-old driver at the wheel of a 2006 Chrysler Sebring struck the man and remained at the scene. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

The victim was transported by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. An update on his condition was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
