Hercules Police Seeking Leads from Friday's Hit and Run Collision

The Hercules Police Department is seeking information regarding the suspect vehicle, and driver, in a Pedestrian Felony Hit and Run Collision.

Police are still searching for the man who was driving a SUV when he hit a pedestrian then fled the scene of the accident Friday, January 17 around 6:20 a.m.

The 70 year old victim was in the cross walk, crossing Willow Ave., toward the BART lot, when he was struck by the SUV traveling southbound. The victim was knocked completely out of the cross walk.

The victim was transported to the local Trauma Center to receive care for head injury sustained during the collision. He was listed in “serious but stable” condition, and has since been released from the hospital.

Witnesses state the driver of the SUV stopped, got out of his vehicle, and approached the victim. A witness asked the driver if the victim was okay, and the driver said “he’s breathing."

Then driver of the SUV returned to his vehicle, backed-up, and drove around the victim as he fled the area, South on Willow Ave. toward Sycamore Ave. The suspect vehicle is described as a mid-size SUV, dark in color, which may have front end damage. The driver is described as a Caucasian male, in his 40’s, 6-2, 220 pounds, and balding.

The incident was also recorded by a passing transit bus, which was on the way to the BART lot at the time of the collision.
