Mountain Lion Spotted Near County Reservoir

Police are increasing patrols in the area where the cougar was reported. If you visit the recreation area, use caution.

LAMORINDA, CA — Lafayette Police reported just before 11 p.m. Wednesday that a mountain lion was reported in the 3300 Block of Woodside Drive, which is near Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area.

If you encounter a mountain lion, LPD offers these tips:

  • remember they do not want contact with humans
  • remain calm and slowly move away (running may encourage an attack)
  • NEVER approach a mountain lion
  • stand tall and never crouch down

If you spot a mountain lion, call the LPD dispatch center at (925) 284-5010 or through 911.
