Pinole-Hercules 2020 Election Guide: City Council, Local Races
Six candidates are vying for three seats on the Hercules City Council, while two candidates are competing to serve as Pinole city treasurer.
PINOLE-HERCULES, CA — More than 400,000 Contra Costa County residents — 56.87 percent —have already turned in their ballots for the 2020 presidential and general election, the County Registrar of Voters reported Monday afternoon. For those wishing to vote in person, polls at the county registrar's office are open until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Election Day.
In Hercules, 9,835 of 16,819 ballots — 54.48 percent — were returned as of Monday afternoon.
In Pinole, 7,127 of 12,409 ballots — 57.43 percent — were returned by 4 p.m. Monday.

For Pinole and Hercules voters, there are several local races to decide.
In Hercules, six candidates are competing for three seats on the City Council: Dan Romero, Gerard Boulanger, Irina Galieva, Alexander Walker-Griffin, Tiffany Grimsley and Celsa Taraya.

In Pinole, two candidates vying for two seats on the Pinole City Council: Maureen Toms and Devin Murphy.
In the race for Pinole city treasurer, voters are deciding between Rafael Menis and Roy V. Swearingen
Pinole-Hercules voters are also deciding whether to re-elect Federal Glover as the Contra Costa County Supervisor for District 5 or elect his challenger, Gus S. Kramer.
Three candidates are vying for two spots on the board of the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District: Charles J. Davidson, Joe Lubas and Collene Couzens.
Two candidates are vying to be the West Contra Costa Unified School District trustee for Area 1: Jamela Smith-Folds and Estela Depaz.
Countywide, voters are deciding on Measure X:
Ballot Question: To keep Contra Costa’s regional hospital open and staffed; fund community health centers; provide timely fire and emergency response; support crucial safety-net services; invest in early childhood services; protect vulnerable populations; and for other essential county services, shall the Contra Costa County measure levying a ½ cent sales tax, exempting food sales, providing an estimated $81,000,000 annually for 20 years that the State cannot take, with funds benefitting County residents, be adopted?
