Pinole Man Identified as Pedestrian Killed By Train

The Capitol Corridor train was blazing along at 79 Miles per hour when the man was struck.

PINOLE, CA - A man who was fatally struck by an Amtrak train Thursday in Pinole was identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office Monday as 28-year-old Frank Whitson.

The train hit the Pinole man at 4:52 p.m. Thursday near tracks at Pinole Shores Drive, according to Amtrak officials.

Amtrak officials said a trespasser was reported walking near the tracks when the person was struck by Capitol Corridor train No. 538, which was traveling at 79 mph and was headed to the Sacramento area.

There were 202 passengers on the train at the time, but none of the passengers or crew suffered injuries, Amtrak officials said.

Six trains were delayed by the incident. No further information was immediately available.
