Dear Mayor and City Council Members,

Find out what's happening in Pinole-Herculesfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

My name is Tammy Campbell, and I am secretary for a citizen-based grassroots organization, Pinole for Fair Government. One of our missions is to create better communication between Pinole residents and city government. Tonight, you have on your agenda 9A a discussion regarding the use of the Faria House for the Pinole History Museum. Pinole For Fair Government posted a survey for citizens to take regarding their support for this action. We asked the public the simple question, “Given the financial uncertainty caused by COVID-19, how much would you be willing to spend from city funds, of any type to support the investment on the Faria House Renovation for the creation of a Pinole History Museum?” Listed below are the results:

Question # 1 Would support $0 - $10,000

Answer # 1

  • Yes - 51% with 118 votes
  • No - 49% with 112 votes

Question # 2 Would support $10 - $100,000

  • No - 70% with 128 votes

Please note that not everyone answered every question, but you can see the trend by the results. This is information for the council to make a better more informed decision.

The Faria House decision made on November 17.

Agenda Item 9A

Prior to the meeting Mayor Pro-Tem Martinez-Rubin and Councilmember Vincent Salimi announced that they had a conflict of interest (not defined) and recused themselves from any discussion or participation in the Faria House proposal, Memorandum of Understanding.

The vote to proceed with the Faria House Proposal failed in a two to one vote. Since only three members of the Council were eligible to vote, a majority vote of three was needed.

Mayor Swearingen and Council member Murray voted YES. Councilmember Tave voted NO.

Councilmember Tave was the Chair of the Faria House Ad-Hoc fact-finding committee.

He concluded that the financial uncertainties of this proposal did not meet the criteria for moving forward at this time.
