Pinole Resident Killed In Highway 4 Crash
The CHP says the man was a pedestrian who was hit in the dark by a driver who couldn't stop in time. The driver suffered major injuries.
PINOLE, CA —A pedestrian fatally struck on westbound state Highway 4 in Antioch on Friday night has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 29-year-old Pinole resident Steven Armstrong.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at about 9:20 p.m. to the collision reported on westbound Highway 4 east of Laurel Road. Armstrong was found lying in the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined a 23-year-old Bethel Island woman was driving west on the highway in a 2012 Nissan Versa when Armstrong ended up directly in the path of her vehicle and she was unable to avoid striking him, according to the CHP.
