Pit Bull On Leash Attacks 6-Year-Old Girl At East Bay Park

The child was hiking with her parents when the dog took her to the ground.

RICHMOND, CA - A little girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance Sunday after she was attacked by a Pit bull dog at a park while hiking with her parents. The child is expected to fully recover. The dog has been quarantined by animal control until an investigation is finished.

The attack happened at 10:45 a.m. at Point Pinole Regional Park in Richmond.

According to Dave Mason, Public Information Supervisor for East Bay Regional Park District, "The 6-year-old child was walking on the Owl Alley Trail in the west bound direction. As she passed the 7-year-old male Pitbull [sic] and his owner; she was bit on her left side near her abdomen and taken to the ground. The dog’s owner was able to immediately get his dog to release the child. The Pitbull was leashed and wearing a pinch collar at the time of the attack."

Contra Costa Animal Control interviewed both the dog's owner and the child's parents before taking possession of the dog.
