Are Your Property Taxes Paid, Poway? Deadline Looming

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA - Only about 30 percent of second installments of property taxes in San Diego County have been paid so far, and the April 11 deadline is looming, county Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister said today.

Around 620,000 bills totaling $1.9 billion remain unpaid, he said.

McAllister encouraged San Diego County landowners to pay their bills online via e-checks, a system he said is free, easy and ensures the payment is posted the same day.

"More than half of San Diego County property owners have discovered that the easiest and most secure way to pay their property taxes is online,'' McAllister said. "I invite and encourage all San Diego homeowners to try out our mobile friendly online payment system.''

He said people who don't use e-checks but instead pay via their online banking system need to confirm dates with their banks, because sometimes it can take 10 days for payments to reach the Treasurer-Tax Collector.

His offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 11.

Only the downtown office in the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, accepts cash. Branch locations are in Chula Vista, El Cajon, Kearny Mesa and San Marcos.
