City Of Poway: Capital Projects Update

A comprehensive update of Poway's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) was presented to City Council at the Feb. 16 meeting.

A comprehensive update of Poway’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) was presented to City Council at the Feb. 16 meeting. As of the presentation, there were 42 projects in progress, totaling an investment of $54 million in maintaining and improving the city’s infrastructure and enhancing facilities to better serve the community.

Some of the key projects highlighted included progress on the Mickey Cafagna Community Center at Community Park, which is on time and within budget. The buildings are nearing completion and the contractor is focusing on interior finishing work and sitework around the buildings. Construction is expected to be completed in May.

Utility undergrounding as part of the Espola Road Safety Improvement project is at about 75% complete. SDG&E and Cox Communications are wrapping up their undergrounding; AT&T will begin their work in the next few weeks. The city will resume working on the pathway along the west side of Espola Road when utility work wraps up.

As part of the city’s LED Street & Safety Lighting Conversion project, the decorative lighting in the Civic Center area was replaced and fixtures are being tested on Midland Road to help staff make a final decision on the best fixture in the Old Poway neighborhood.

The council presentation included an overview of projects related to streets, drainage, public facilities, and sewer. Updates on city water projects managed by Public Works will be provided at an upcoming council meeting.
