Driver Killed In Crash Into Tree Near Poway Intersection

POWAY, CA — A driver was killed Wednesday in a crash into a tree near a Poway intersection, authorities said.

The solo-vehicle rollover crash was reported around 2:50 a.m. near the intersection of Pomerado and Twin Peaks roads, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies found a 2010 Honda Civic coupe off the side of Camino Del Norte. Investigators determined the driver was traveling eastbound and veered off the roadway and collided into a tree, sheriff's Sgt. David Toner said.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, Toner said.

No details about the victim were immediately available. It was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
