A DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Poway Friday night resulted in one driver arrested for suspicion of DUI and 12 citations for driving without a valid license, according to the Sheriff's Department. The checkpoint operated on the eastbound lanes of Poway Road near Oak Knoll Road between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m., according to Deputy Aaron Meleen. Of the 2,361 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 1,822 were screened by deputies. Thirty six vehicles were sent to a secondary-inspection area for further evaluation, where three drivers were cited for having a suspended license, one driver was arrested for driving while in possession of marijuana and one driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, according to Meleen. Nine vehicles were towed from the checkpoint, which was funded through a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
