Powegian Gets Seat On SD County Grand Jury

Patty Grosch, wife of Poway City Councilman Dave Grosch, is part of the 19-member jury who will serve through June 30, 2014.

A Poway City councilman's wife has been selected as a member for the San Diego County Grand Jury, it was announced Thursday.

Patricia Grosch, whose husband is Councilman Dave Grosch, will serve as one of the 19 members of the "watchdog" service. In a statement emailed to Patch, Dave said he was proud of his wife and her new volunteer position.

"Patty volunteered because she wanted to serve her community," Dave Grosch said. "I know she takes this new responsibility very seriously and she will do a very good job in representing the citizens of San Diego County."

The new Grand Jurors were randomly drawn from a pool of 77 qualified San Diego County residents, according to a county press release.

The group is responsible for investigating local government, from corruption allegations to the management of local prisons. Grand jurors must be at least 18 years old and able to serve a minimum of six hours a day, four days a week throughout the one-year term. They are paid a per diem of $25.

Gregory L. Ny, a 63-year-old a retired construction management company owner from San Diego, was appointed the foreman. The other San Diego residents chosen come from a variety of backgrounds, including education, nursing and volunteering.

“I had a friend that served on one of the past Grand Juries. Based on conversations with him, I thought that this would a be a rewarding experience and a great way to give back to the community,” Ny said. “As a ‘watchdog’ for the citizens of S.D. County; I am hopeful that this Grand Jury will be able to make an impact on the system and address the citizens’ complaints in a manner that will both help the community and make the effected agency or organizations a better place.”
