‘Save the Bacon’ Motorcycle Ride for Wounded Deputies Comes to Poway
The motorcycle ride and benefit will support the Critical Incident Support Fund, which assists injured deputies and their families.

Hundreds of motorcycle riders will rumble through San Diego County to take part in the Save the Bacon Ride on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, to benefit wounded deputies.
The San Diego County Deputy Sheriff’s Foundation and Pure Forge Brakes will host a motorcycle ride and benefit in support of the foundation’s Critical Incident Support Fund, which assists injured deputies and their families. The ride begins at El Cajon Harley Davidson (621 El Cajon Blvd. in El Cajon), follows the Sunset Highway, and ends at the Deputy Sheriff’s Association (13881 Danielson St., Poway). Registration begins at 8 a.m. with kickstands up at 10 a.m. Registration fee is just $25 for solo riders and $35 for two-up riders, and includes lunch, two drink tickets, and two raffle tickets per person.
In 2012, the “Ride for Ali” directly benefited Ali Perez and Craig Johnson, deputies injured in a highly publicized gun battle. Hundreds of riders from the greater Southern California law enforcement community, as well as many motorcycle enthusiasts from our local community, came out to show their support. This year, both Det. Perez and Sgt. Johnson have returned to help turn this amazing event into an annual fundraiser for the Critical Incident Support Fund and the foundation.
The 2013 ride, now known as “Save the Bacon”, is a self-guided tour through the back hills and mountains of San Diego County. The ride ends at the DSASD with a celebration featuring a gourmet food truck, music from the Shotgun House Blues band, and a raffle featuring many excellent prizes. The first riders are expected to arrive at the DSA around noon.
Title sponsor Pure Forge Brakes, located in Poway, outfits entire fleets of law enforcement motorcycles and cars.
The San Diego County Deputy Sheriff's Foundation is the non-profit charitable arm of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of San Diego County. The foundation provides relief and support to San Diego County Deputy Sheriffs and the communities they serve.
