Emergency nurse, singer-songwriter Tad Worku releases new single
Single speaks directly to struggle frontline workers experience amid pandemic

Singer-songwriter Tad Worku has been on the coronavirus pandemic's frontlines, working as an emergency trauma nurse. In March, Worku had planned to go on tour for his debut album, Love Is All, but canceled as venues began to close. Worku went back to the emergency department to provide care to the most vulnerable patients and using his experience to write songs to help his co-workers cope with the health crisis.
Now, nearly a year later, Worku releases the first single from his sophomore album, Vol. 21. The song, titled "Keep Standing," is a tribute to healthcare workers, specifically nurses. "As emergency nurses, something rarely hits you so hard that you feel like you can't continue to stand," he says.
The inspiration for this single came from a post written by one of Worku's co-workers in which she described working a harrowing night shift that threatened to overwhelm the staff. Multiple co-workers responded to the post, echoing the bleakness of the shift. "Many described it as the most challenging night they had worked in their entire careers as nurses," he said.

After reading the post, Worku sat at his piano and searched for a response that could somehow begin to capture that sentiment, and immediately, he sang the opening words to the song:
I feel them falling like raindrops upon my face

Another morning I whisper I need your grace
I didn't know I'd be walking into a storm
When is the cavalry coming my courage is worn
Using the unique struggles of frontline workers in 2020, Worku speaks directly to the struggles he's experienced in healthcare. Worku emanates a captivating spirit, delivering uplifting anthems of hope, raised even higher by empowering lyrics and soulful musicians.
