Groundbreaking Held For Redlands-To-San-Bernardino Rail Line

A groundbreaking was held Friday to commemorate the launch of construction for the $355.4 million dollar Redlands Passenger Rail Project.

REDLANDS, CA -- The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority on Friday held a ceremonial groundbreaking for its $355.4 million Redlands Passenger Train Project, which aims to connect Redlands and San Bernardino via rail.

The groundbreaking was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Third Street and Stuart Avenue in Redland.

The nine-mile passenger rail service is planned to run between the San Bernardino Transit Center and the University of Redlands. There would be five stations in total:

  • San Bernardino Transit Center, at 599 W. Rialto Avenue in Downtown San Bernardino;
  • Tippecanoe Avenue Station, between Victoria Avenue and Hardt Street;
  • Esri Station, north of the intersection of Redlands Boulevard and New York Street across from the Esri campus in Redlands;
  • Downtown Redlands Station, north of the historic Redlands Santa Fe Depot, between Eureka and Orange Streets;
  • University Station at the University of Redlands at the south end of campus near North University Street.

The rail line is projected to open in early 2022, according to the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.
