CASE SYNOPSIS

In July, 2018 deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence in Rancho Cucamonga regarding a call of shots fired in the area. During the investigation, Drake Girard Petronzi and Alison Marie Jimenez were arrested.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of responding deputies, the medical staff at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, personnel at the San Bernardino County Department of Children and Family Services, Deputy District Attorney Morrissa Cardoza, and the foster family that later adopted this child, the little girl Mr. Petronzi and Ms. Jimenez abused now has hope for a healthy and happy life. I’m thrilled that this case has finally come to an end and justice has been served for sweet Payge and her loving adoptive family.  The sentence handed down today ensures that the defendant can never hurt Payge, or any other child, ever again!  Hopefully it also forces Mr. Petronzi to reflect on his actions and make many necessary changes in the future.– Deputy District Attorney Morrissa Cardoza

SENTENCING

On May 24, 2021, Mr. Petronzi was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the severe abuse he inflicted upon a young child. Ms. Jimenez is currently on probation and will remain so until February 15, 2023.

ORIGINAL FILING

When our office originally received this case, and after reviewing it, our office charged Mr. Petronzi for violating the following section of the California Penal Code:

Penal Code Section 273a(a) – Child Abuse (Felony)Any person who, under circumstances or conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes or permits any child to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering, or having the care or custody of any child, willfully causes or permits the person or health of that child to be injured, or willfully causes or permits that child to be placed in a situation where his or her person or health is endangered, shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or in the state prison for two, four, or six years.

Our office charged Ms. Jimenez for violating the following section of the California Penal Code:
