Pushing the boundaries of body, mind, and soul, “The Revenant” is hauntingly beautiful and cruel. A loose adaptation of Michael Punke’s 2002 novel, the movie is set in the wintry American wilderness of 1823. It is a journey of survival and spirituality, all made possible by one man’s relentless quest for revenge.

Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, “The Revenant” stars Leonardo DiCaprio as explorer Hugh Glass who, after being left for dead, endures brutal savagery in the harshest conditions of unchartered 19th century American Frontier.
