Officers Help Deliver Baby In South Bay Parking Lot
The new mom and baby boy were taken to the hospital, and were both doing well, police said.
REDONDO BEACH, CA — Officers helped a woman deliver a baby boy in a vehicle in a Target parking lot in Torrance, police said Friday.
Officers responded about 7:45 a.m. Thursday to a report of a woman going into labor in a car in the lot in the 3400 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, Torrance Police Department Sgt. Alexander Martinez said.
"The first two responding officers contacted the woman in her vehicle and learned she was in labor," Martinez said. "One officer assisted the woman in reclining her seat and gathering a towel as the other officer helped guide the baby out. Approximately one minute later, the officers helped deliver a baby boy."

Firefighters treated the woman and newborn at the scene before taking both to a hospital, "where they are doing well," Martinez said.
