Transient From Utah Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Burglary

A 27-year-old transient man was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary in Redondo Beach Thursday, police said.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A 27-year-old man police describe as a transient from Utah was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary Thursday, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Officers responded about 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Knob Hill, near South Catalina Avenue, police said. A resident reported that a man was yelling in front of homes at the location and that he had entered a backyard and was attempting to force open a door into their residence.

Officers contacted suspect Juan Brito, 27, of Bountiful, Utah, police said. He was in the stairwell of the residence and when officers attempted to take him into custody he ran away to the backyard, jumped multiple fences and walls into neighboring backyards.

Authorities set up a containment area and the suspect was located at a neighboring residence, where he scaled a backyard wall up onto a garage roof to a residence. Officers talked to the suspect, who then climbed down from the roof. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Brito was arrested about 10 a.m. His bail was set at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in court May 3.
