U.S. Men's Soccer Team Defeats Canada in Carson

The victory extended the U.S.' undefeated streak against Canada to 17 games, dating back to 1985.

Jozy Altidore scored in the 89th minute and goalkeeper David Bingham did not need to make a save for the shutout in his national team debut as the U.S. men’s soccer team defeated Canada, 1-0, Friday night in an exhibition at StubHub Center.

The U.S. outshot Canada 17-4 and led 8-0 in shots on goal.

Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau made seven saves.

Defender Brandon Vincent of Valencia, who completed his senior season at Stanford last month, made his national team debut, playing the entire second half.

The victory extended the U.S.’ undefeated streak against Canada to 17 games, dating back to 1985, with nine victories and eight ties.

The U.S. leads the series, 14-8-11, last losing to the Canadians 2-0 on April 2, 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The U.S. has not lost to Canada in the U.S. since a 3-2 loss in a World Cup qualifier on July 6, 1957, at St. Louis’ Public School Ground, with nine victories and nine ties since then.

Canada is 85th in the rankings compiled by FIFA, soccer’s worldwide governing body. The U.S. is ranked 32nd.
