West Basin Municipal Water Board Election 2020: One Open Seat

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday to vote for one of the three candidates vying to represent West Basin Division 3.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan Beach and Torrance residents will choose Tuesday which candidates they want to represent them on the West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors, Division 3.

Many voters have already cast their ballot via early voting or mail-in voting due to the pandemic. Voting centers are open and people can also drop off ballots there.

Voters will decide which of the three candidates running for West Basin District 3 will fill the one open seat for a 4-year term.

"Newly elected or re-elected Directors officially assume office on the first Monday in January after a November election," according to West Basin Water District's election procedures.

There are also six candidates for Beach Cities Health District member of the Board of Directors, which is a 4-year term.

"The Board of Directors of the Beach Cities Health District consists of five (5) Directors, each of whom must be a registered voter residing in the District (see map of jurisdiction)," according to Beach Cities Health District's website.

These are the three candidates on the ballot for Member, Board of Directors, Division 3 — West Basin Municipal Water District:

  • Desi Alvarez - Water Engineer
  • Carol W. Kwan - Member, Board of Directors, West Basin Municipal Water District
  • Doug Solomon - Financial Transparency Advocate
