Tower Apartments Getting a Facelift

Changes will make complex more energy efficient

Tower Apartments, on East Cotati Avenue, will undergo a major renovation starting next week that will make the property more energy efficient.

Some 170 people live at the affordable housing complex, but since being built in 1996, the property has never been upgraded.

Now tenants will get a new roof, new siding, exterior windows, improvements that will make all 50 units more energy efficient and help save money on energy bills, said Tom Lauderbach, senior project manager at Burbank Housing, an affordable housing organization that has more than 30 projects in Sonoma County.

Other improvements include newly insulated attics, new smoke detectors and upgrades to the heating system.

The community building will be expanded, giving residents more space to congregate for social events.

The $2.8 million project is being financed through a combination of temporary loans, tax credits and permanent financing and will occur over the next nine months.
