SAN DIEGO, CA β€” A runway conflict that forced an incoming airliner to divert from Lindbergh Field was under investigation Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.

Air traffic controllers at San Diego International Airport instructed the crew members of SkyWest Flight 3446 to discontinue their approach to the bayside airport on Thursday evening due to the presence of Delta Air Lines Flight 2249 on the runway, preparing for departure, according to the FAA.

The Delta aircraft then safely took off, and the SkyWest plane subsequently landed without incident, the federal agency reported.
