ESCONDIDO, CA — A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was badly hurt Tuesday in a collision at an intersection near the Westfield North County shopping center.

The patrolman was riding to the east on Via Rancho Parkway in Escondido when the driver of a Nissan Rogue SUV pulled directly into his path from northbound Lomas Serenas Drive about 12:45 p.m., CHP public-affairs Office Salvador Castro said.

The resulting collision hurled the officer off his two-wheeler, Castro said. Paramedics took him to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment of severe injuries. His name was not released.
