Dying San Diego Mom Needs Funds For Pricey Treatment
Ashley Mitchell is battling a rare form of cancer. Friends hope to raise money for a treatment in Mexico that costs $6,000 a week.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- San Diego County residents are raising money to help a local mom battle a rare form of cancer. Ashley Mitchell of Vista was diagnosed with NUT midline carcinoma, a rare genetically defined disease that's formed by chromosomal rearrangement.
Mitchell told 10News she was diagnosed with the cancer after discovering a tumor last May, a couple months prior to marrying her husband, David.
As the cancer quickly takes over her body, a GoFundMe page was created with the hopes of sending Mitchell to Tijuana, Mexico to receive a natural therapy treatment. But the price for the out-of-country treatment is steep at $6,000 per week.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign raised more than $16,000.
The treatment in Mexico, developed by Max Gerson, works to boost "the body’s own immune system to heal cancer, arthritis, heart disease, allergies, and many other degenerative diseases," according to Gerson's website.

Family members said it's Mitchell's last hope to survive.
As Mitchell fights for her life, she is writing letters to her five-and three-year-old sons so that they will remember her during life's milestones.
"I've enjoyed being their mom," Mitchell told 10News.
