SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA β€” As the coronavirus pandemic fuels job losses and accompanying food-bank needs, the nonprofit Feeding San Diego said it is particulary grateful for a two-day fundraiser underway at the 47 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations throughout San Diego County.

The sub-sandwich chain is donating 25 percent of sales Monday and Tuesday to the local hunger-relief agency, a Feeding America affiliate that partners with a network of 300 area charities, schools, faith communities, meal sites and food pantries.

β€œWith children out of school, rising unemployment and business closures, the need for food assistance has increased by an estimated 50 percent in San Diego County,” said Gavon Morris, Feeding San Diego's chief development and marketing officer. β€œJersey Mike’s partnership and generous gift is helping us distribute additional meals to the community during this difficult time.”

β€œWe hope everyone will come in to our beautiful newly renovated restaurants and support this important cause,” said Cathy Brown, a local Jersey Mike's owner, who said San Diego County locales are following the give-back example set by the business's founder Peter Cancro.
