Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle Near San Diego Airport

A pedestrian suffered serious injuries when struck by a motorcycle in the Middletown area, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA β€” A pedestrian suffered serious injuries Monday morning when struck by a motorcycle in the Middletown area, police said.

Rescue crews were called shortly before 6:45 a.m. to Pacific Highway near West Laurel Street, just east of the San Diego International Airport, San Diego police Sgt. Dave Yu said.

A motorcyclist struck a pedestrian near the intersection, Officer Scott Lockwood said. The motorcyclist remained at the scene, but it was not immediately clear if the rider was also injured in the crash.

The pedestrian, whose name and age were not immediately available, was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, including head trauma, Lockwood said.

Investigators shut down both directions of Pacific Highway near Laurel Street for the crash investigation. The road closures were lifted by 10 a.m.
