Rain, Wind, Mountaintop Snow: Spring Storm to Sweep Through San Diego County

A spring storm is expected to bring rain, wind and high elevation snowfall to the area this week.

SAN DIEGO β€” Starting Tuesday, a spring storm will begin rolling into parts of San Diego County, where it's expected to sprinkle light rain and deliver gusty winds as the week progresses.

Rain showers will ramp up Wednesday before diminishing on Thursday. Windy conditions are expected to persist in the mountains and deserts throughout the three-day period, according to the National Weather Service.

Anticipated rainfall totals through Thursday range from 1/4 inch or less in the deserts, to as much as 1.5 inches along the coast and in the valleys and up to 3 inches in the mountains.

Forecasters expect the snow level to fall from about 7,000 feet to 5,500 feet by Wednesday afternoon and to 5,000 feet on Wednesday night. Up to 4 inches could accumulate at resort levels, they said, and between 4 and 8 inches may fall near the highest peaks.

Though drier, warmer conditions are due in the area on Friday, a second storm system is expected this weekend.
