Safest Cars for New Drivers
Which cars are the best for new San Diegan drivers? I look at affordability and safety.

San Diegans do a lot of driving, and after some serious research while trying to find myself a new car, I stumbled upon the safest cars for new drivers. I considered a few features when looking for a car and found that all these cars listed below had the following features:
- Fuel-Efficient
- Automatic
- Small
- Affordable
The Toyota Camry

Toyota has always been a go to for my family, but their camry has been rated among the safest cars for teen and new drivers, why? It's great features and affordable price. U.S. News and World report gave it a 9/10 rating and prices start at $23,945. But remember, you don't have to buy new.

The newer the car the better the features, because I do a lot of driving and sitting in traffic, I would opt in for the 360-degree camera system, blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency breaking. For new drivers, if you can afford some of these features, it is worth doing, given that new drivers have a bigger chance of getting into car accidents.
The Honda Fit

Size was another factor that I believe is something you should look for. Small but safe. Having a smaller size vehicle for a new driver can be extremely helpful. Parking, merging, less blind spots. The Honda Fit is my choice for these reasons. It retails for less than $20,000, and the newer versions' safety features include, forward crash warning system, emergency breaking, and lane assist. It's also rated 8.5/10 by US News and World Report.
Ford Focus

My third best choice while looking at cars was the Ford Focus, this is the one I ended up buying. It is the most affordable out of all my choices and rated 8.7/10 by US News and World Report. Depending on the model you can get it relatively cheap, it's safe and has great gas mileage. It's comfortable and easy to drive, that is something you should be looking for when choosing a car for a new driver.
All of these cars hit the four features I was looking for and end up being great for a new driver in San Diego. Speed is also something to consider, no need driver needs a speedy cars. A good car, that is safe, cheap, easy to drive and gets a good gas mileage doesn't need to go from zero to 60 in seconds.
