SAN DIEGO β€” San Diego Comic-Con’s second day was filled with nostalgia, thanks to the writing and directing teams of β€œAvengers: Endgame,” who, at their panels, talked about the historic wrap-up of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s incredible 22-film journey.

On Friday, July 19, the β€œAvengers: Endgame” directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, took the stage at Hall H and delighted the audience as they entertained some video questions from fans. Guess what? The fans turned out to be Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman.

The most insightful question came from Downey, who asked the Russo brothers to shed light on the meaning of his famous wordsβ€” β€œI am Iron Man.”— in both the original β€œIron Man” and β€œEndgame.”

Joe explained that in the end, the self-centered Tony Stark finally understood the true meaning of serving others unselfishly.

β€œAt the end there, Tony had become a father, and speaking as a father, there’s something that happens to you when you reach that point in life,” Joe mentioned.

The director then continued explaining that fatherhood and Stark’s love for his daughter transformed him. β€œHe was in a different place when he said, β€˜I am Iron Man,’ there at the end,” said the director.

Prior to the Russo Brothers’ panel, β€œAvengers: Endgame” screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely also made their appearance at Hall H for an on-stage conversation to talk about some deleted scenes from the movie, the plausibility of time travel in a multi-universe setting, and the best way to honor the fallen avengers.

The fans were dying to find out if there are two Captain Americas on Earth. McFeely was quick to say, β€œPass,” with a smile. Meanwhile, Markus was somewhat open to the idea, as he mentioned, β€œI’m entertained by that theory.”

The actress said an emphatic β€œNo.” In addition, Conleth Hill also confirmed that his character, Lord Varys, was trying to poison Daenerys in the end.
