San Diego Food Bank To Receive Funds For 595K Free Meals
San Diego-based International Relief Teams said the S.L. Gimbel Foundation is sending $985,314 for COVID-19 food relief efforts.
SAN DIEGO, CA β A San Diego nonprofit announced Wednesday that it has received a nearly $1 million grant to help the county's food bank, also a nonprofit, provide hundreds of thousands of free meals to residents in need.
San Diego-based International Relief Teams said the S.L. Gimbel Foundation, part of The Inland Empire Community Foundation, is sending $985,314 for COVID-19 food relief efforts.
IRT has helped the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank meet increased demand for food assistance throughout the coronavirus pandemic, according to the nonprofit.

Since May 2020, IRT has purchased more than $779,000 in food, providing more than 566,000 meals for hungry San Diego families. The new funding will cover another 595,000 meals.
"International Relief Teams is very grateful to the S.L. Gimbel Foundation for its generous support to help families struggling to feed themselves and their children," said Barry La Forgia, IRT executive director.
