San Diego Homicide Arrest

SAN DIEGO, CA — A parolee from South Carolina was behind bars today on suspicion of killing a 32-year-old man at a motel in downtown San Diego's Core-Columbia neighborhood.

Shortly before 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, officers responding to a report of a death at a motel on 10th Avenue between Ash and A streets found a 32-year-old man dead in a room with apparent trauma to his upper body, San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs said.

Investigators learned the victim was discovered when motel employees went to clean the room after the man who rented it had checked out, Dobbs said. Investigators determined the victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, had been staying with the man who rented the room and the two had been in a dating relationship, the lieutenant said.

Officers tracked down the man who had rented the room, identified as 41-year-old Ryan Edward Breeland of South Carolina, and arrested him on suspicion of murder, Dobbs said. Breeland was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder and a parole violation, according to jail records. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for next Thursday.
