2 Projects To Go Before Marin Art Advisory Group

SAN RAFAEL, CA —Two projects will go before the pilot San Rafael Art Advisory Group’s inaugural meeting Tuesday.
The Canal Arts Initiative is proposing a project at 3301 Kerner Blvd and the San Rafael Social Justice Community Art Group is proposing a project at Arbor Park in Terra Linda.
The Canal Arts Initiative project aims to bring a visual transformation of the neighborhood that reflects its cultural diversity and history through colorful paintings on walls and buildings.

The group has secured a grant from the California Arts Council to achieve the first major installation of color and art in Canal.
The San Rafael Social Justice Community Art Group formed last fall after a chalk art mural honoring the life of Breonna Taylor created at the intersection of Manuel T. Freitas Parkway and Las Gallinas Avenue over the summer was removed per city policy to keep public property clear of markings.

The group’s project’s focus is on creating art that includes a positive message to celebrate the core themes of JEDI – Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion through the lens of a Marin-based black, Indigenous and people of color perspective.
The virtual meeting will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m.
