4-Year-Old Novato Boy Almost Drowns in Fairfax

Lifeguard brought a 4-year-old Novato boy back to consciousness after pulling the child from the bottom of the pool at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.

 

A lifeguard at the in Fairfax revived a 4-year-old Novato boy Sunday afternoon after the toddler almost drowned in the club’s pool. 

The lifeguard pulled the boy from the bottom of the pool, performed CPR and brought the boy back to consciousness before paramedics arrived on the scene a little after 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, according to Marin County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Barry Heying.

Before the near-drowning, the lifeguard saw the boy in the pool with a flotation toy in a section of the pool that’s four-feet deep.

“The boy’s parents were nearby but did not notice anything wrong until the lifeguard jumped in the pool for the rescue,” Heying wrote in an e-mail to Patch. “The parents reported that the boy did know how to swim and did not know what may have happened.”

The boy was transported to Marin General Hospital for examination.

There were several families at the crowded pool on Sunday, Heying said.

Officials from the Fairfax Police Department, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Marin County Fire Department responded to the scene.
