UPDATE: Water Main Break Snarls Traffic on Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Center Blvd.

UDPATE 6:15 p.m.:

All lanes on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. are open, according to the San Anselmo Police. 

UPDATE 5 p.m.:

Crews had finished repairing the broken water main by 4:30 p.m., but both eastbound lanes were still closed and a huge hole was in the road from the repair work (see photos at the right). The crew was in the process of backfilling the hole and reopening the road. It is expected be reopened by 6:30 p.m.

Vehicles headed west on Sir Francis Drake did not appear impacted, but traffic was snarled on eastbound Sir Francis Drake, west of the water main break. Also, traffic on Center Blvd. appeared to be moving especially slowly at Center and Pastori Avenue, and many eastbound cars were turning onto Landsdale Avenue.

Dennis Norton, who lives near Morningside Avenue, said he noticed significantly more cars coming through his neighborhood, which is just north of Drake High School. 

UPDATE: 3:16 p.m. Repair crews expect to have the repair completed and eastbound Sir Francis Drake Blvd. reopened between 5 and 6 p.m. today.

Both eastbound lanes of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. are closed while Marin Municipal Water District crews repair a water main break. 

The closure is in San Anselmo between Broadmoor Avenue and Ash Avenue, just west of Drake High School.

MMWD officials sent out suggested detour routes directing traffic to Center Blvd. MMWD is coordinating traffic with the Fairfax and San Anselmo police departments, officials said.
