Fairfax Enacts Eviction Ban

The ordinance bans evictions without cause through Sept. 30 due to the economic impact of the pandemic.

FAIRFAX, CA — The Fairfax Town Council on Wednesday enacted a measure that aims to help low-income residents facing hard times amid the pandemic.

The five-member council voted unanimously in support of emergency ordinance banning residential evictions due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis, easily clearing the 4/5 hurdle required to by the town to adopt an urgency ordinance.

The ordinance bans evictions without cause through Sept. 30.

Residents with questions regarding how to protect themselves from eviction due to COVID-19 are encouraged to contact the Legal Aid of Marin.

“The extension of the eviction moratorium is a very important layer of support to provide residents still experiencing the economic hardships of the pandemic,” Councilmember Stephanie Hellman told Patch.
