Fairfax’s Proposed Natural Gas Ban Gains Steam: Report

The Climate Action Committee initiated the idea for the ban.

FAIRFAX, CA — It started in Berkeley. The Bay Area’s three biggest cities, San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland joined shortly afterward.

Now the town of Fairfax is seriously considering joining the growing list of California municipalities who have enacted natural gas bans on future development.

The North Bay town has ordered staff to draw up an ordinance prohibiting banning gas hookups in future residential and commercial development, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

Sacramento and Santa Barbara are among the most high-profile cities considering joining the more than 40 state jurisdictions that have enacted similar measures, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Berkeley in July 2019 became the nation’s first city to enact a natural gas ban according to The Chronicle report.
