SAN ANSELMO, CA — A man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of breaking into a restaurant in San Anselmo.

Police responded shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday to a report of an in-progress burglary at Mi Familia restaurant at 530 Red Hill Ave. An employee said he found the front glass door smashed and a person inside the restaurant when he arrived at the business.

Arriving officers saw the suspect, later identified as Luiz Claudio Dutra Destra, come out of the building while carrying a plastic trash can. When Destra spotted the police, he started to run west on Red Hill Avenue, lost his balance and dropped a pry bar and the trash can, which was filled with pre-rolled coins taken from the restaurant safe, according to Central Marin Police.
