Both the 19-year-olds booked on suspicion of assault are residents of San Anselmo. The third subject who was in the car was not arrested because he was a bystander in the alleged assault, according to statements, said Detective Corporal Julie Gorwood.

The details of "who cut off who" in the road rage incident that lead to the assault are not clear, said Gorwood. But according to statements made by the suspects, she said, the initial blow came from one of the suspects. The man injured in the incident, police said, was not charged.

A road rage incident on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard early this evening ended with two 19-year-olds arrested on suspicion of assaulting another man.

San Anselmo police officers responded to a report of three adult men assaulting another man at around 5:40 p.m. Officers found a 53-year-old man laying on the sidewalk on Cordone Avenue, bleeding from a cut to his lip and holding the left side of his chest and ribs.

Two male subjects were seen running from the scene. Officers caught up with Christopher Wiegers and Cole Clemons and detained them. They, then, reportedly admitted to being involved in the assault, according to police.

A third subject, Spencer Pieri was later contacted at his home, where he also admitted to being involved in the incident, said Detective Corporal Julie Gorwood.

Officers say Pieri told them he was driving his car with passengers Wiegers and Clemons and had been involved in a road rage incident while traveling west on Sir Francis Drake. Pieri said he followed the other vehicle on to Cordone Avenue, where all four subjects exited their vehicles and began arguing. The argument became physical and, according to statements, Pieri threw a basketball in the face of the other driver and then swung at Pieri. Pieri and Wiegers then began hitting and kicking the man.

Fire and paramedic personnel responded to the scene and treated the man, who was released at the scene.

Pieri and Wiegers were placed under arrest on suspicion of Battery with Seriously Bodily Injury and were booked at the county jail. Clemons was released without being charged.
