Marin Ax Attack On 12-Year-Old Girl Probed
The girl was airlifted to Oakland Children's Hospital with major injuries and has been undergoing surgery, police said.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — A San Rafael man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder among other charges Monday night according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office booking log.
Ermidio Diaz used an ax in a Monday night attack on a 12-year-old child and her 46-year-old mother that left both with serious injuries, San Rafael police said.
Diaz was their roommate according to police.

Officers at around 10:25 p.m. responded to the 500 block of Canal Street on the report of an attack, police said.
The mother told officers that Diaz attacked her and her daughter with an ax, police said.

The girl was airlifted to Oakland Children’s Hospital with major injuries and has been undergoing surgery, police said. She suffered a major laceration to her right eye, the bridge of her nose, and several impact wounds to her right arm and lower right abdomen according to police.
Her mother suffered major stab wounds and lacerations to her upper body and also lost parts of her fingers while shielding her daughter and herself, police said. She is at Marin General Hospital and listed in stable condition according to police.
Diaz was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, battery with serious bodily injury and child endangerment according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office booking log.
