Residents in San Anselmo and Fairfax said, resoundingly, no, we're not doing enough.

"No, the simple answer is no," said Forest Knolls resident Michael Bock, at Bolinas Park in Fairfax. "Ultimately, we're sending them off to something that is fundamentally insane to begin with."

Bock said it was hard for troops to reintegrate with society.

Anna Brunton, a Fairfax resident, was optimistic, though, about some of the work being done around the psychological issues soldiers face when they return home.

"I think I'm really encouraged by psychological work they've been doing on problems from the battlefield," she said. There is extensive studying being done to recreate the smells, sounds, sights from the battlefield in order for returning troops to work through their post-traumatic stress symptoms.

But, Brunton said that, overall, not enough is being done to support the troops in the wars or as they return.

"They need better medical care when they come back," said San Anselmo resident Ted Fehlhaber.

"Veterans ought to be coming home from something that's about spreading peace," said Bock.
