Rainwater Catchment Workshop in Fairfax on Saturday, Dec 3

Register now to learn how you can capture our precious rainwater

Catch the rainwater before it is wasted down the storm drain!

Sustainable Fairfax is having a rainwater catchment workshop on Saturday, December 3, 10am-4pm at a residence in Fairfax. Learn to install rainwater harvesting systems in this hands-on workshop taught by experienced instructors from Greywater Action.

We will install two types of rainwater harvesting systems:

1) a “dry system” with the downspout flowing directly into a 55 gallon barrel located next to a building

2) a “wet system” that allows rainwater storage to be located away from a building—the rain will be piped from the gutter, under a path, and over to where it rises naturally into a large cistern.

We will also focus on beneficial “secondary use” of the overflow water from the barrel and cistern, directing it to infiltration in the garden rather than to the storm drain.

You will leave knowing how to calculate the amount of rainwater you can capture from your own roof, and have an idea of the types of storage that are available—so you’ll be all set to design your own system!
