Ransacked Vehicles and a Child Hits a 7-year-old Girl in the Head with a Baseball Bat

The San Anselmo police log for August 8-12 includes multiple vehicles that were ransacked and a note left on a car that says "move the ugliest car I've ever seen, or we'll have a problem."

Homeless man screaming: 2:03 a.m. Sir Francis Drake Bl. Caller reported a group of homeless subjects screaming in the area. Officers responded and contacted a male subject who was alone. He was warned and abated from the area.

Door scratching: 8:48 a.m. Broadmoor Avenue. Reporting person said someone scratched her front door causing damage sometime last night. Officer contacted the reporting person and it was determined none of the scratches appeared to be fresh.

Drumming: 4:59 p.m. Elm Court. A citizen reported loud drums in the area. Officers located the source and contact was made with the home owner who agreed to stop playing the drums.

Loud band: 5:18 p.m. San Anselmo Avenue. A citizen reported a band playing loudly in the area. Officer located the band at a business that was having a function. The responsible was contacted and advised it would be over by 6 p.m.

 

Noise complaint: 3:36 a.m. Crescent Rd. Caller reported two male subjects were sitting in a vehicle that was parked and blocking a driveway. They were blasting music and possibly drinking. Officer responded and contacted the subjects who were advised of the complaint and agreed to move onto their own property.

Suspicious reader: 8:58 a.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported a subject appeared to be asleep on private property. Officers made contact with the subject who was reading. He was moved along and advised of the complaint.

Dead squirrel: 10:02 a.m. Pine Street and Cedar Street. A citizen reported a dead squirrel in the roadway. Humane was advised.

Suspicious person: 12:31 p.m. Red Hill Avenue. Caller reported a male subject with pliers and a screwdriver at the rear of closed business. Officers responded and made contact with the subject. He was moved along. The business owner was contacted and advised.

Extra traffic control: 12:59 p.m. Greenfield Avenue and Lincoln Park. Caller reported a stop sign was turned the wrong way and a "Do Not Enter" sign was obstructed. Caller witnessed several near collisions. Officer located the sign upside down, probably due to construction work. Reporting person was contacted and was concerned because drivers are driving down the wrong way on Greenfield. San Anselmo’s Department of Public Works was notified.

Alarm: 8:59 p.m. Suffield Avenue. An alarm at a neighbor’s house was sounding. Officers responded and found it was a malfunctioning sprinkler alarm. Fire Department responded and helped shut it off.

Barking dog: 9:22 p.m. Parkside Court. Caller reported a dog was barking and whining for the last two hours. Officer responded and found it quiet on arrival.

Noise complaint: 9:41 p.m. Floribel Avenue. Anonymous reporting person reported loud music from a residence. Officers responded and contacted the resident. He was testing some sound equipment for a reception they will have next week. He was advised of the complaint.

Barking dog: 9:48 p.m. Durham Road. Caller reported a barking dog for the last two hours. Officer responded and stated the dog was inside and was very audible from the street. The resident was contacted and they advised they would be home shortly.

Noisy family reunion: 11:10 p.m. Crescent Road. Caller reported a loud party with music at a house somewhere on the street. Officers responded and located the party and contacted the resident. The resident advised they were having a family reunion and would get everyone out of the pool and inside.

 

 

Friday, August 10

Noise complaint: 1:20 a.m. Hazel Avenue. Caller reported a group of 7-8 men and women on the street talking and making a lot of noise. Reporting person has yelled at them twice to quiet down, without success. The area was checked and was quiet on arrival.

Drinking beer: 2:44 p.m. Veteran’s Place. Caller reported a man sitting in a vehicle drinking a can of beer. Contact was made with the subject, who denied the violation. He was advised of the complaint and sent on his way.

Petty theft: 4:43 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported he had a package delivered from UPS, but never received it. Report taken for the theft of $70 in bicycle parts. 

Bottle rockets: 5:30 p.m. Woodland Avenue and Cedar Avenue. Caller reported she heard three bottle rockets just go off. The area was checked and it was quiet. Officer was unable to locate the responsible.

Unwanted subject: 6:30 p.m. Belle Avenue. Caller reported her neighbor has been pounding on her door and demanding she come outside. Reporting person stated the subject also threatened another neighbor in the complex. Contact made with both subjects. Determined the one was upset about someone reporting her dogs barking. Matter abated, and she was given advice.

Found bike: 7:14 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported a bike hidden in the bushes by the fence behind the building. The bicycle was located and taken to the corporation yard as found property. 

Girl hit with baseball bat: 8:44 p.m. Veterans Place. Caller reported his 7-year-old daughter was hit in the head with a baseball bat by another child. Unknown if intentional or accidental. Caller was upset that the other child and parents left without checking on his daughter's possible injuries. He wants to speak to an officer for advice for insurance and medical reasons. Contact made, advice given.

Sleeper: 9:33 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Officer said she found a sleeper on the hillside behind the business. He was again warned on the camping ordinance and advised to break down his campsite. Officer will check back in a few hours to ensure that he has moved along.

Juvenile problem: 9:36 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Officer said she found a group of juveniles. A couple carloads of juveniles were moved along.

 

Thursday, August 9

Hot tub adult gathering: 1:03 a.m. Oak Knoll Avenue. Caller stated there is a loud party at a residence to the rear of her house on Oak Knoll. Caller stated subjects were in the pool. Contact made with the resident, who was having an adult gathering in the hot tub. They were advised of the complaint and went in for the night.

Barking dog: 8:11 a.m. San Francisco Blvd. Caller said a dog had been barking for 10 minutes. Normally it is in the evening and goes on for longer so the reporting person called when it started. A message was left for the resident and a note was left in the front mail box.

Suspicious circumstances: 8:58 a.m. The Alameda. Reporting person said sometime between 1900-2100 hrs last night, an unknown subject entered the RP's vehicle. It doesn't appear that anything had been taken. An officer contacted the reporting person regarding the incident.

Animal complaint: 1:44 p.m. Red Hill Avenue. Caller reported via 911 that a dog was locked inside a vehicle without ventilation for the past 20 minutes. Contact made with the registered owner of the listed vehicle, who advised he was just picking up some food.

Suspicious person: 1:47 p.m. Mariposa Avenue. Caller reported that someone tried his door 4-5 minutes ago. He looked out the door and saw a subject that he doesn't recognize walking away. Last seen turning left on Kensington from westbound Mariposa. Area checked, unable to locate. Reporting person was contacted. UPDATE at 2:18 p.m.: Reporting person called back and advised, per his school, he was getting a new roommate and the subject who tried the door may have been him.

Animal complaint: 2:54 p.m.  Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported a dog in a vehicle with the windows up, unknown how long it's been there. Reporting person will be standing by in a red t-shirt. Contact made with the registered owner, who was reprimanded and released.

Ugly car jab: 3:05 p.m. Berkeley Avenue. Reporting person reported someone put a flyer on her son's car a week ago stating he could be ticketed if parked more than 14" from the curb (RP says it isn't). Yesterday, someone put another flyer stating they should "move the ugliest car I've ever seen, or we'll have a problem." Caller considered this a threat. Contact was made. Officer determined the letters weren't threatening and advice was given.

Stolen bear: 4:54 p.m. Mariposa Avenue. Caller reported theft of a figurine of a black grizzly bear, standing approximately 16" tall. It was stolen from his residence sometime within the last two days. Figurine was valued at $100.

Petty theft: 7:17 p.m. Ridge Road. Caller reported sometime between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. his unlocked vehicle was entered and a satellite radio receiver was taken. Loss: $75.

 

Wednesday, August 8

 

Grand theft: 11:38 a.m. San Rafael Avenue. Caller reported the theft of funds and a computer. Officer met the RP at the station and took a report.

Fraud: 1:25 p.m. Rutherford Avenue. Caller reported an unknown subject had added herself to the RP’s credit account.

Juvenile problem: 4:30 p.m. Grove Hill Avenue North. Caller reported three juveniles were lurking around her house, snickering and laughing as then ran down Sequoia. Per her neighbor, the boys live down at the bottom the hill on the left.

Petty theft: 6:33 p.m. San Anselmo Avenue. Caller reported a male and female stole three sunglasses ($500 at least) and left.

Locked out: 8:29 p.m. Butterfield Road. Caller reported via 911 that he was locked out of his residence. Handled by the fire department.

Petty theft: 10:39 p.m. The Alameda. Caller returned home and noticed that his and his babysitter's unlocked vehicles had been ransacked. The only item taken was the stereo faceplate from the RP's vehicle. RP requested documentation and extra patrol only.

Reckless driving: 10:43 p.m. Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Caller reported a black truck with "big" tires was running red lights and almost hit another vehicle. Contact made with the driver, who admitted he had been driving "somewhat carelessly." He was reprimanded and sent on his way.
