San Anselmo Student Named National Merit Scholarship Winner
A Marin Academy student was among the final recipients of 2017 National Merit Scholarships.

SAN ANSELMO, CA – A San Anselmo student is among 900 final college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships winners, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Monday.
Adam Lipson of San Rafael-based Marin Academy is planning to study chemical engineering at Tufts University in Massachusetts. He is from San Anselmo.
The Marin County winner is among 41 chosen from California. The newly announced Merit Scholar designees join more than 3,200 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in June.

Sponsored by 182 colleges and universities, the scholarships provide between $500 and $2,000 each year for up to four years of an undergraduate program. Sponsor colleges include 103 private and 79 public institutions located in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the winners of corporate-sponsored and $2,500 National Merit Scholarships earlier in the spring. In all, more than 7,500 high school graduates will receive over $32 million in National Merit Scholarships, sponsored by both corporations and higher education institutions.
