The CHP helicopter crew and San Rafael firefighters rescued a rider who was found 150 feet below a trail in a remote area of the park around 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Gray said.

Firefighters used ropes to pull the cyclist up to the trail, where he was hoisted into the helicopter and taken to a waiting San Rafael Fire Department ambulance, according to Gray.

Authorities responded to the same area around 6:30 p.m. to rescue a rider from below a trail and take him by helicopter to the waiting ambulance, Gray said. California State Park rangers and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office’s search and rescue team assisted in the second incident, Gray said.

The chief said it is important for bicycle riders to know where they are riding and be familiar with the trail before starting out.
