Virgin America Celebrates New Flights From SFO To Denver

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA - Virgin America celebrated the launch of a new direct flight service from San Francisco International Airport to Denver today with a special event and a sale.

The Burlingame-based airline launched the inaugural flight from San Francisco to Denver this morning at around 7:30 a.m. Onboard the flight, Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, members of LinkedIn and other startup founders held a discussion on the future of entrepreneurship.

The discussion was live-streamed using the company's onboard high-speed internet service.

Virgin America also announced a sale in honor of the launch, offering flights for the new three-times daily service to Denver for as low as $59 from today through Wednesday.

Additionally, the airline is also offering a network-wide sale with fares to some locations as low as $39 through Thursday, according to Virgin America officials. Virgin America officials said service to Denver has become the number one most requested destination by the airline's corporate clients because of the city's booming economy.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to connect two of the nation's largest innovation economies and build strong ties with the city of Denver and state of Colorado - starting today with our new flights," Virgin America President and Chief Executive Officer David Cush said in a statement.

In an effort to grow roots in the city, the airline has pledged $25,000 to the Knowledge is Power Program in Denver, which prepares underserved students for college. Denver is now the 24th destination served by the airline.
