Caltrain Noise Near San Carlos Station To Be Reduced: Here's Why

Neighborhoods near several Caltrain stations along the Peninsula will be quieter starting Wednesday when the transit agency begins reducing the horn noise coming from trains traveling through the stations..

Caltrain engineers no longer need to continuously sound their horns when passing through certain stations such as San Bruno, Belmont and San Carlos, which will just require one short horn blast as it approaches.

The engineers will continue to blow their horns at stations with pedestrian crossings or if they see a potential safety hazard near or on the tracks, according to Caltrain.

Visual messages and audio announcements will advise passengers of approaching trains at the 22nd Street, Bayshore, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, Belmont, San Carlos, California Avenue, San Antonio, Lawrence and Santa Clara stations.
