Cupertino Man Accused Of Lewd Behavior With Minor: SMC

The man who worked with the victim at the TJ Maxx in San Carlos was taken into custody upon a detective-arranged meeting in RC: SMC.

SAN CARLOS, CA — A 25-year-old Cupertino man was arrested on suspicion of having inappropriate contact with a minor while they both worked at TJ Maxx in San Carlos, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department reported.

Ryland Marques Chan was taken into custody last Wednesday and is facing felony charges of engaging in sexually explicit conversations with the intent of sexual assault of an underage girl, the sheriff's department said.

Chan communicated with the victim through various social media platforms and sent text messages soliciting pictures of illicit nature for his own sexual gratification, SMC added.

Detectives were notified and immediately started an undercover operation by communicating with the suspect under the guise of being the victim. Detectives were able to obtain evidence of the suspect’s motives and agreed to meet the suspect at a prearranged location in Redwood City.
