Deputies Recover $20k In Stolen Tools, But No Suspect: SMC
San Mateo Co. Sheriff's deputies found the tools and the suspect's vehicle but were unable to locate the suspect.
SAN CARLOS, CA — San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a suspect accused in a commercial burglary of a machine shop business in San Carlos in which over $20,000 in tools were taken.
Deputies responded at 10:41 p.m. Sunday to Lazar Machining at 299 Old County Road to investigate the report of a commercial burglary in progress. When deputies arrived two minutes later, they saw a front window smashed at the business and witnessed a black male get into a nearby vehicle and drive away. Deputies followed the suspect vehicle until it drove onto southbound U.S. Highway 101. Deputies retrieved a license plate and noted the description of the vehicle.
About 40 minutes later, a deputy located the suspect vehicle parked and unoccupied in front of the Good Nite Inn in Redwood City. The suspect was not located after an extensive search of the area, but it was determined the license plates on the vehicle were stolen from Burlingame on Aug. 22.

The $20,500 worth of tools taken during the burglary were recovered and returned to the burglary victim. The stolen vehicle will be processed for evidence and returned to its owner.
If found, the suspect faces felony charges of commercial burglary as well as possession of a stolen vehicle and merchandise.
